Firstly, I can qualify my posts (as I did with the post you replied to) whereas making a baseless reply without any qualification proves 2 things, you obviously know nothing about the history of Arenanet and nothing about NcSoft or more specifically NcWest.

Arenanet formed after a group of devs left blizzard to "do their own thing" (shorthand version) and Guild Wars is born they then get into bed with NcSoft to use their publishing muscle but retaining the overall rights, this changed when A-net was "absorbed" by NcSoft/NcWest later on.

NcSoft and more specifically NcWest have a rich heritage of MMO publishing and production as well as a bigger history of pisspoor customer relations and more recently they managed to release a successful Korean MMO to NA/EU called Aion, which NcWest promptly screwed up in just about everyway possible and have managed to turn a gem into a turd in the space of 12 months through pisspoor CR and not understanding the product they were bringing to the west, it continues to be successful in Korea (most likely because NcWest team have nothing whatsoever to do with it there).

I am hoping & praying that they have actually learnt from the mistakes they made & continue to make with Aion and manage to not screw up GW2

However with the soul/core of A-net leaving to Undead labs it is beginning to look like history may begin to repeat itself.

Anyone who is a GuildWars fan had better start praying that Lance Stites doesn't get involved in GW2, if that clown becomes involved in the process in any way shape or form then kiss goodbye to what should have been GW2 and say hello to what will no doubt be a short lived frustrating experience for every player.

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone! I'm sad to be leaving ArenaNet because I love the studio, but I'm really excited for this new opportunity. Seriously, guys. Zombies. You hear how people like them, but I kind of take that to a more alarming level. The lock screen of my phone is a picture of me and George Romero. I've been obsessed with horror since I was a toddler.

I know Martin and Regina have messaged this before, but don't take my departure as anything negative. Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are in many extremely capable and passionate hands. To be honest, I haven't been directly involved in actual development in quite some time - my focus for the past few years has been web, marketing, community, and other behind-the-scenes projects.

I know that people generally view departures as alarming, but mine is definitely not. I'm moving from one company of friends to another company of friends to work on a genre that I've ALWAYS wanted to work on.

I'm still going to continue to play Guild Wars, and I'm looking as forward to playing GW2 as you guys are. I have no doubt that this team will deliver an incredible game.

Could we please have a zombie-themed leaving party with skeletal NPCs, bone dragons, skeletonic drops and blood magic +1 for the duration of the event?

/beg.

Good luck Emily, but I can't help but wonder...is it just a coincidence? I'm somehow not buying into the "we just love zombies", "yeah me too" type of thing. I just hope we see good games from both sides but I can't help but be suspicious.

Maybe, just maybe, Aion's failure to really catch on in the west is because Korean/Japanese MMOs tend to be very different than ones that are produced in the US, because the playerbase likes very different things. Aion is very obviously a Korean MMO, and hence was never going to enjoy huge amounts of success in the west without basically changing everything about it.

It was a game made to appeal to a different market. FFXIV is suffering the same fate right now.

Why not? I don't see any questions being avoided or cover-ups. Emily even posted here explaining the situation. She was presented with an offer, and she took it.

I mean, come on. Zombies! 'Nuff said.

At first I was like, yay zombies! I never get tired of zombies. Then I saw console only...

Why consoles? Because we love console gaming, and it’s time for a great console MMO! No ports from the PC. No hybrid designs. No hedging bets. We’re going to make a game designed for console gamers, by console gamers, with the action, streamlined interface, polish, and same-screen cooperative play that console gamers expect. Then add to this the vast virtual world, global in-game community, and fun social dynamics of the best MMOs, and it’s pretty much a no-brainer!
But but GW is a PC only game...

Anyway, good luck nevertheless Emily and thanks for your contributions. =P

Well congrats on the new job, but does this mean you're no longer playing?

Good luck, Emily! It's always refreshing to see someone actually pursue their passion instead of retiring to a life of "What if...".

The first movie I ever remember seeing was Night of the Living Dead (when I was four),
What kind of parents would let their 4 year old child watch NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD? Who are these people I wish to report them to the Child Welfare services dept!!??

Do you see what they have done to this child? I am flabberghasted.
